River Heritage Park
20 years ago, River Heritage Park was Carmel Clay Parks’ first fully inclusive playground design. In keeping with that legacy, a new playground and walking trails were designed to be completely inclusive. The playground equipment is designed to be largely ground level accessible.
While the majority of the park is largely wooded to the east bank of the White River, it was previously not accessible to the public. A mile of new walking trails through the woods is comprised of unitary rubber surfacing and nearly 600 feet of boardwalk is entirely accessible with gentle slopes to allow for easier passage. Two trail loops include nodes with additional woodland play areas, a picnic grove, and two river overlooks. These overlooks allow views of the White River and seating near its banks.
